Digital printing service

We offer a high quality digital printing service for authors requiring 50 books or more. Based in Cape Town, the hub of the publishing industry in South Africa, we print and deliver to clients all over the country.

Our standard digital printing specifications are as follows:

    • book inner printed one colour black throughout on 80 gsm white bond (thick books are done on 70 gsm to reduce weight and bulk)
    • book cover printed on 230 gsm sulphate board in full colour, with your choice of matt or gloss laminated cover
    • perfect bound (single pages glued at spine)

Ways to save on costs when printing digitally:

  • Most digital presses run A3-oversize sheets of paper so the most economical and commonly used page is A5 (210 mm deep x 148,5 mm wide) as the printers can fit 4 x A5 pages pages up on 1 sheet. Sizes smaller than A5 but bigger than A6 (148,5 mm deep x 105 mm wide) result in paper waste that you are paying for anyway.
  • The more pages there are in the book, the more expensive it is to print.
  • Hardcover books are a lot more expensive to produce than softcover books - even more so on the lower print quantities such as those used for digital printing.
  • The more books you print, the lower the unit cost per book.
  • Smooth 'art paper' is more expensive than standard bond and is generally only used when the book contains photographs and/or is printed in full colour.
  • Colour digital printing is very expensive, so much so that it's not really an option to print full colour books in short runs. If you MUST have full colour, try to restructure your book so that you keep the number of colour pages down and preferably grouped together in a section. Avoid a sprinkling of colour pages throughout your book as these have to be manually interleaved before the book gets bound and manual labour is time-consuming and expensive.
